Going fast is not simply a case of pulling hard or taking more strokes. Interestingly, it is not necessarily the stroke rate self selected either. Forward movement is a trade off between stroke frequency (cadence) and stroke length in combination with the conditions at the time. Our laboratory research conducted over the last two years has highlighted optimal cadence strategies that paddlers were unaware of and unlikely to establish during normal training. Our functional testing protocol takes the guess work out of determining the optimal stroke rate strategy for you.
